In a normal scenario, this demand could translate to buying pressure. However, as seen in the chart below, the spike in the activity on the Bitcoin network is attributed to the non-fungible token (NFT) collection "Ordinals." The demand for these assets has interfered with the normal on-chain dynamics. We can see a shift in preference as it relates to inscription types. Key reaction points remain at $31,000 on the upper hand, a level flashing with April 2023 peaks, and $26.5k on the lower end, a support level marking the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level of the March to April trade range.  Bitcoin Price On May 1| Source: BTCUSDT On Binance, TradingView Moreover, from mid-March 2023, BTC rallied approximately 60%, floating higher as the financial markets feared another meltdown in the United States banking sector. Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) experienced a bank run in March while two more crypto-centric banks, including Signature Bank, closed shop. High On Chain Activity, A New Normal For BTC? Bitcoin prices are now cooling off, looking at the performance in the daily chart. This is despite positive news based on blockchain activity.  According to Dune Analytics, the Bitcoin network has processed more transactions than any other day since launching 14 years ago. On May 1, on-chain data showed that the platform processed 568,300 transactions, 78,000 more than it processed at the peaks of the 2017 Bull Run. Even though activity has exploded, an analysis of the chunk of transactions processed revealed that over 50%, or 307,000, were inscriptions from Bitcoin Ordinals. Dune data shows that the number of inscriptions is up 16% from April 29 and maintains an upward trend pointing to increasing user demand. The Bitcoin Ordinals allow users to attach or "inscribe" files on the Bitcoin network, including apps, videos, audio, images, texts, and more.  These files are unique, "inscribed" at the Satoshi level, and permanently stored on Bitcoin blocks. The more files inscribed, the more transactions there are, explaining the "spike" in the number of on-chain transactions processed in recent days.  As of May 1, over 2.9 million files were attached to the Bitcoin network, with the number of average inscriptions rising from less than 10,000 in early February to over 300,000 in early May 2023.  As mentioned above, the rapid rise of "inscriptions" doesn't necessarily translate to demand for BTC. The underlying network is a transactional layer, enabling the transfer of funds. However, many companies have values that aren't clear or up to date. As Gallup research shows, this can lead to serious problems. A mere 27% admit to believing in the values that their employers highlight. As a result, the values become little more than words — and that undermines their potential to be inspirational and clarifying. Ideally, you want your corporate values to do much more than sound good on paper. You want them to resonate with all your team members and appeal to your customers or client base. To get those benefits, though, you may need to reconsider or refresh your existing company values. Below are the best strategies to make sure new values are reflective of what employees and buyers need. 1. Bring your workers into the discussion early Getting buy-in for values is hard if you haven't asked your team for feedback first. A better way to ensure that your values are on the right track is to survey your workforce. We recommend bringing in a third party. Consider partnering with a consultant with experience creating strong, effective corporate cultures. After all, you want your values to drive your culture — and vice versa. To put it into practice, hold town halls, send out surveys, and find out the ways your people want to be contacted and ultimately treated. It wouldn't take long before someone noted the disconnect, which could lead to employee turnover or negative press. There are plenty of ways to match your actions to your values. In many ways, it's so much easier to launch a startup today than in the past; the ecosystem is full of services, access to information is instant, the startup world is now a global industry where so much has been templatized and millions of "how-tos" are available, and a proliferation of venture capital, incubators and accelerators are more available than ever. There are newer challenges that founders face today, however. Competition is global, the pace of innovation is constant and ever-accelerating, expectations are higher, and the road to IPO is longer. This last point could be the most interesting one; staying private longer changes the whole entrepreneurial journey and calculation. The clear path to liquidity via IPO or acquisition has changed, and leaders need to adjust. Related: 4 Ways an Entrepreneur Can Increase Liquidity How did we get here? Today, there are around 1200 unicorn companies globally. There have never been this many unicorns or privately owned companies valued over $1 billion USD before. The two biggest reasons a founder takes their company public is to have access to capital and to provide liquidity for shareholders. However, today, the abundance of available venture capital has made it possible for founders to keep increasing valuations and postponing a liquidity event. Plus, there are now other ways shareholders can reach liquidity without necessarily going through an IPO or an acquisition. Staying private delays the costly management and regulatory headaches of being publicly traded. Given all of the scrutiny and costly overhead of compliance and reporting required to run a public company, as a founder, you would probably prefer to grow outside of the public market. How does staying private longer affect founders, investors, employees and their company? And how does this change the way you operate? A founder's guide Ten years ago, today's unicorns would have gone public by now. Founders, VCs and employees would have converted their early investments and hard work into material wealth, however, that's not happening in this market like it was in the past. Today, there are more options for liquidity for all equity stakeholders in companies without necessarily going through an IPO or acquisition. With more options for liquidity and a new entrepreneurial journey, founders should consider the following as they grow their companies. To start, if this is your first time starting your own company, get a board member or advisor who is knowledgeable about different stock incentive plans, how to structure them, tax implications, etc. Find members with a broad perspective coupled with deep expertise in your market, and seek out people who are experienced investors. How much will employees receive in salary vs. what will they receive as equity compensation? For most startups, the biggest expense is salaries. They are part owners, and if the company succeeds, they'll directly benefit from it. You get better performance out of employees when they feel ownership as well. However, it's important to adjust the compensation plan as the company grows. These are a few things to consider: Stage of the company: This directly relates to the risk the employee is assuming for taking this job. For both investors and employees willing to take the greater risk, they deserve the higher reward. Job function and level: Higher-level employees might expect higher salary compensation while lower-level employees might be more willing to accept lower industry pay in exchange for greater equity compensation. It's mostly about the stage in life they are in; as younger employees often have fewer responsibilities, they are more willing to take a lower salary. People with families usually can't give up as much in salary compensation. Market trends: What are your competitors doing? If you are offering something less interesting than your competitors, they might secure the best talent out there. Keeping top talent incentivized: As the company grows and takes in new funding rounds, but you want to guard your run rate and optimize your cash, issuing new stock options is a great way to retain top talent. Keeping team morale high is key in down markets The robust growth we've seen in the private markets in the last ten years directly affected how and why the private capital secondary market grew. Since 2012, the secondary market has grown to more than five times its previous size, reaching a record $130B in 2021. During this time, online platforms that allow shareholders to buy and sell shares in private companies have surfaced and shown great success. We've been facing downturns and market instability and witnessing downward pressure on valuations in this market. Leaders steering a winning company must keep a perspective on the longer term, knowing that valuations are cyclical. It's important to stick to fundamentals and assure shareholders that you see the path through the market's vicissitudes. Since the chart's inception, it has brought investors 3,000% ROI. Earlier adopters turned $250 into a cool mil. Those who bought the top might be at risk of turning a million into lot less, considering the risk of a more than 80% correction. The risk is due to the parabolic curve pictured above breaking down violently. A rule of thumb in technical analysis is to expect at minimum an 80% retracement of a parabolic rally. If this investor were to sell their remaining meme coin tokens at the current market price, it could potentially profit approximately $4.14 million.  Furthermore,  a user using dimethyltryptamine.eth has made a significant profit investing in the cryptocurrency project. The report suggests using a verbal codeword among family members and trusted close friends as one of the protective measures from voice scams. "About half (47 percent) of Indian adults have experienced or know someone who has experienced some kind of AI voice scam, which is almost double the global average (25 percent). 83 percent of Indian victims said they had a loss of money — with 48 percent losing over Rs. 50,000," the report said. McAfee conducted a survey on how artificial intelligence (AI) technology is fueling a rise in online voice scams, with just three seconds of audio required to clone a person's voice. "The survey reveals that more than half (69 percent) of Indians think they don't know or cannot tell the difference between an AI voice and real voice," the report said. The survey found 66 percent of the Indian respondents said they would reply to a voicemail or voice note purporting to be from a friend or loved one in need of money. "Particularly if they thought the request had come from their parent (46 percent), partner or spouse (34 percent), or child (12 percent). Messages most likely to elicit a response were those claiming that the sender had been robbed (70 percent), was involved in a car incident (69 percent), lost their phone or wallet (65 percent) or needed help while travelling abroad (62 percent)," the report said. The survey also found that the rise of deep fakes and disinformation has led to people being warier of what they see online, with 27 percent of Indian adults saying they are now less trusting of social media than ever before and 43 percent being concerned over the rise of misinformation or disinformation. "Artificial Intelligence brings incredible opportunities, but with any technology, there is always the potential for it to be used maliciously in the wrong hands. This is what we're seeing today with the access and ease of use of AI tools helping cybercriminals to scale their efforts in increasingly convincing ways," McAfee CTO Steve Grobman said. The "miner reserve" is an indicator that measures the total amount of Bitcoin that all miners are holding in their wallets currently. This trend suggests these blockchain validators are accumulating the cryptocurrency. On the other hand, a decreasing value in this indicator implies that miners are transferring some BTC out of their reserve. Since one of the main reasons why these investors may withdraw from their wallets is for selling-related purposes, such a trend can have bearish consequences for the asset's value. The miner reserve has only moved sideways or down since this selloff, suggesting that these holders haven't participated in any accumulation in recent months; they have only been looking at chances to exit. Recently, when Bitcoin plunged from the $30,000 mark, the indicator again saw a sharp leg down, meaning that this cohort was again selling their BTC. The drawdown in the indicator has also continued through the volatile price action observed in the last few days, suggesting that the BTC miners are still disposing of their coins. Though these investors may have been selling a net amount of coins recently, the actual scale of their selling isn't that significant compared to their total reserve (they currently hold upwards of 1.82 million BTC in their wallets). The quant notes, however, that the miners holding onto their coins for longer periods could be one of the crucial factors for the bullish trend's health. It now remains to be seen whether these holders can reverse the trend anytime soon or if they will continue to sell Bitcoin in the short term. 'Buy Now Pay Later' helped us in testing users in short span of time. After they have used the pay later product, then we give them loan products," Taku said. The company has withdrawn its plan to go for public listing which it filed in 2021. "We are a very much IPO focussed company. We will use this year to churn one after another profitable quarter. If we have 2-3 profitable consecutive quarters, then we will definitely look for it (IPO). Right now it's wait and watch. I don't think the market is amenable for any tech internet company to go for listing," Taku said. She said that the company is well funded and has sufficient internal accruals and hence does not require additional fundraising. Mobikwik had last raised funds at a valuation of around $700 million (nearly Rs. 5,720 crore) in December 2021. There is no support for videos and direct messages, or DMs, so far. Bluesky runs on a decentralized framework, similar to social network Mastodon. It allows users to build independent social media experiences and users can join a specific "server", which has its own unique set of rules, interests and participants. How does it compare to Twitter? Bluesky offers a similar experience to Twitter — people create profiles and post short messages with text and images. On the timeline, Bluesky has "What's hot" and "Following" feed, similar to the curated "For You" and the chronological "Following" feeds on Twitter.  Unlike Twitter, Bluesky's core framework allows for various customizations. "Instead of one site running the network, you can have many sites. It means you get a choice of provider, and individuals and businesses can self-host if they want," it said in a blog post in October. Who is behind Bluesky? It was started by Dorsey as a project within Twitter in 2019 and was set up as an independent company in 2022. As of April 2022, it had raised $13 million (nearly Rs. 105 crore) from Twitter. According to the analyst, the bearish divergence of the BTC: On-Chain Summation Index suggests a target of approximately $27.200. A Head and Shoulders (H&S) pattern also indicates a lower range target of $25,000. The BTC on-Chain Summation Index is a metric that tracks the number of Bitcoin being transferred on the blockchain. When the index shows a bearish divergence, it suggests a decrease in the amount of Bitcoin being transferred, which could lead to a decline in price. On the same note,  Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, received its largest single Bitcoin deposit in the past week. The deposit, made to an address that had remained inactive for four months, came from five separate addresses and totaled over 1,200 BTC, worth over $35M at current market prices. The firm noted that the deposit was made in a single transaction and that the funds were sent to a previously unused deposit address. Will this translate into an extension of the bearish momentum? It remains to be seen.  Moreover, according to Material Indicators, a crypto analytics firm, the recent Bitcoin monthly candle close/open has signaled a potential short-term price correction for the cryptocurrency. The federal court lawsuit comes 11 days after SpaceX made good on a newly granted FAA license to send its next-generation Starship rocket on its first test flight, a mission that ended with the vehicle exploding over the Gulf of Mexico after blasting the launchpad to ruins on liftoff. The shattering force of the launch hurled large chunks of reinforced concrete and metal shrapnel thousands of feet from the launch site, located adjacent to the Lower Rio Grand Valley National Wildlife Refuge near Boca Chica State Park and Beach in Texas. The blast also ignited a 3.5-acre (1.4-hectare) fire on nearby grounds and sent a cloud of pulverized concrete drifting 6.5 miles to the northwest, raining over surrounding tidal flats and the nearby town of Port Isabel, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. SpaceX hailed the launch as a qualified success that will yield valuable data to advance development of its Starship and Super Heavy rocket, designed as major components in NASA's newly inaugurated Artemis program for returning astronauts to the moon. But Monday's lawsuit said the April 20 incident marked the latest in a series of at least nine explosive mishaps at Boca Chica in recent years that are disrupting a haven for federally protected wildlife and vital habitat for migratory birds. Intense noise and light pollution, construction and road traffic also have degraded the area, home to two endangered feline predators — the ocelot and jaguarundi — as well as nesting sites for the endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle, and critical habitat for the piping plover, a threatened shorebird, the plaintiffs say. The area and its wildlife are also considered sacred to the people of the Carrizo/Comecrudo Nation, an indigenous group in South Texas. The disturbances show that the FAA violated federal law by permitting expanded operations at Musk's Starbase in Boca Chica without mandating the full environmental impact study (EIS) normally required for major projects, the lawsuit asserts. There was no immediate comment on the court case available from the FAA or SpaceX. Short-cut environmental review? Such EIS reviews typically take years, even decades, to complete. They involve extensive analysis of the project at stake and alternatives, along with mitigation plans to curb or offset harmful impacts. The process also entails public review and comment and often re-evaluation and supplemental study.  Instead, the FAA granted its license on the basis of a far less thorough environmental assessment and a finding that SpaceX activities at Boca Chica pose "no significant impact" on the environment. The lawsuit highlights a history of tension between environmentalists, who have sought to limit development at Boca Chica, and Musk, the billionaire SpaceX founder and CEO known as a hard-charging entrepreneur willing to take risks.  "This case concerns whether the nation's commitment to preserving our critical wildlife habitat and treasured coastal landscapes must be sacrificed as we reach out to explore the cosmos," the lawsuit said. The Ordinal inscriptions also known as Bitcoin non-fungible tokens (NFTs), or Ordinals, are inscriptions (digital artifacts) inscribed on satoshis (sats) – little units of Bitcoin. Glassnode noted the inscription accounts for approximately 30% to 40% of mined transactions and 10% to 20% of fees paid. Meanwhile, the remaining majority of transactions are monetary in nature, frequently conducted through exchanges.  According to Glassnode, compared to Ordinals activity on the Bitcoin blockchain, BTC exchange activity is relatively low, representing roughly 30% of fees and transactions. The trend of creating inscriptions initially gained popularity in February when users started inscribing NFTs on satoshis. However, the recent resurgence has been dominated by inscriptions that are based on text. The survey found that close to 80 per cent of innovators were able to improve the firm's turnover, open up new market opportunities, respond to market and cost pressures whereas only 53.59 per cent were able to respond to existing or forthcoming regulatory provisions through their innovations. "Evidence of the barriers and challenges to technological learning, innovation and development, and upgradation of Indian industries shall be used for devising policies, programmes, and partnerships to strengthen innovation outcomes and benefits," said Akhilesh Gupta, Head Policy Coordination and Programme Management Division. The report suggested that the government may consider fiscal and non-fiscal mechanisms to help firms improve their risk appetite in pursuit of innovation. It also recommended an innovation-linked incentive scheme to help firms, especially MSMEs, to address the financial risks linked to innovation uncertainty. The government should co-fund all research, even research and innovation that fails, the report said. "While the benefits of the scheme can be linked to the output and outcome indicators, the purpose is to help firms address internal enablers and barriers, hence it is particularly important to include innovation failure as a potential outcome, and the related learnings are captured," the report said. The report said the government may consider launching funding allocation for pre-competitive, collaborative industry-focused research and innovation, drawing inspiration from the success of similar programmes in countries as diverse as Australia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, Japan and the Republic of Korea. A look at the 1-hour chart continues to show a similarly strong picture. For SOL's bulls, today is all about closing above the $22 level to stay above the trendline. While numerous altcoins are already trading above the 200-day EMA, the indicator remains the most important target for Solana. However, this will likely require a renewed upswing in the overall crypto market, especially in the leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Once the 200-day EMA falls, Solana's yearly high at $27.13 comes into focus, where the 38.2% Fibonacci level is also located. Subsequent Fibonacci levels would be $33.06 (50% Fibonacci), $39.14 (61.8%Fibonacci), and $47.81 (78.6% Fibonacci). This indicator only gauges the unique mentions of the asset in question, meaning that even if a forum post includes the term several times, its contribution towards the social volume still remains one unit. Now, "social dominance" is a metric that compares the social volume of the given cryptocurrency with that of the top 100 assets (by market cap) combined. Here, the coin of interest is Internet Computer, so what this metric tells is how much of the discussion on the Internet related to cryptocurrencies, in general, includes the topic of ICP. This latest uptrend in the asset's value has been quite extraordinary when compared to the rest of the market, as most of the cryptocurrencies have only shown a flat movement or a decline in the same period. Rapid upwards momentum like this can bring a lot of eyes toward an asset, and so, discussions about it naturally follow on social media. Because of this reason, it's not unexpected that the ICP social dominance has shot up during this period of bullish divergence from the rest of the sector. From the chart, it's visible that the metric saw a large spike of similar scale only a week or so before this latest surge, and this spike too occurred as Internet Computer enjoyed some rapid rise. Shortly after this previous spike in social dominance took place, however, the price topped above the $7 level as the bullish momentum petered out. Generally, whenever there is a sharp rise in discussions around an asset during price surges, it's a sign that euphoria may be building among investors. Historically, such market conditions have led to an increased possibility for the price to form a top. Internet Computer may have hit a local high during the past spike due to this reason. As the latest surge in discussions around ICP is even higher in value than the previous instance, it's possible that the coin may be at risk of declining currently. The drawdown may have in fact already begun, as the cryptocurrency's price has gone down by more than 5% during the last 24 hours. A new report from blockchain research firm CertiK estimates that a whopping amount of $103 million (roughly Rs. 840 crore) was stolen in crypto exploits in April 2023. Notorious actors have been targeting the crypto community because one scam could earn them thousands of dollars from investors. Besides, crypto transactions are largely anonymous that makes the traceability of stolen funds close to impossible. The two most common types of crypto scams that extracted the most funds, as per CertiK, are — exit scams and flash loans. In exit scams, convincing-looking businesses keep accepting payments for whatever product or service they are selling, while abandoning already accepted orders or requests. Often categorised as a 'confidence trick', exit scams were used to steal $9.3 million (roughly Rs. 75 crore) from the crypto sector in April 2023. Flash loans, however, brought more to the scammers and hackers in these instances of cyber loot. As per CertiK's analysis, crypto criminals stole $19.8 million (roughly Rs. 160 crore) by offering limitless borrowing of uncollaterised loans. This way, lenders who need immediate loans borrows and returns the funds in the same transaction, draining the victims' accounts. The exploit of multiple trading bots on April 3 resulted in the loss of $25.4 million (roughly Rs. 210 crore). Later, $22 million (roughly Rs. 180 crore) were lost in the Bitrue hot wallet exploit, followed by the theft of $13 million (roughly Rs. 105 crore) on South Korea's GDAC exchange. In the last four months of 2023, CertiK estimates $429.7 million (roughly Rs. 3,510 crore) were stolen by crypto scammers and hackers. Some users of the KuCoin exchange have collectively lost over $22,000 (roughly Rs. 20 lakh) after the Twitter account of the crypto exchange was briefly hacked on April 24. Criminal activities from crypto scammers also picked up pace in India. Back in March, crypto hackers promoted a fake airdrop event of the Ripple (XRP) stablecoin in India, after they hacked the Twitter account of News24. These posts also showed malicious links to unsuspecting victims to click on and expose themselves to financial risks. Its next-gen graphical fidelity, dynamic combat sandbox, and ambitious open world design were all dimmed by the lack of an emotional core. Not for a lack of trying, Forbidden West failed to ground its chaotic action with considered writing. Despite upgraded facial capture technology, fully animated cutscenes, and a crew of new support characters who all talked a lot, the game often felt bogged down by artificial clunk. While its lush flora, azure waters, and pristine mountains came to life in breathtaking visual detail, its people, more often than not, refused to do so. Even the series' torchbearer, the redheaded huntress Aloy, remained elusive. Fourteen months on, Horizon's plucky protagonist returns to add another page to her saga with Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, the game's first expansion. It adds a sizable new map section, new tools and toys, and new stories to the base content. Released April 19 on the PS5, Burning Shores attempts to address some of these complaints made against the main game, and expands on the series' lore as it dives deeper into science fiction territory. There are some novel mechanics at play, too. Aloy has a few new tricks up her quiver, and her aquatic adventures have received special attention in the DLC, with a focus on more ways to traverse the watery world. She's not alone in her travels either; while previous games in the series have included companions who join Aloy on quests, this time she has a proper partner in crime. On the whole, Burning Shores seems to be a meaty package, with a fresh set of islands to explore, secrets to uncover, and favours to complete for your friends, but the main questline itself remains a lean affair. This could be good or bad, depending on how much mileage one wants out of their DLC. The star attractions, as with all Horizon games, are the machines. There are couple creative new ones here, including a familiar and formerly dormant foe that wakes up for a big finale. Despite all this new promise though, the smoke that billows from Burning Shores smells mostly like Forbidden West. And if there's more of the same good stuff at the core of the experience, much of the bad is carried over, too. Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and More: New Games in April Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores expands the game world to include Los Angeles — or what remains of Hollywood. Set in the ruins of LA, which is now a volcanic archipelago spitting fire and ash, the game adds a new cluster of islands south of its main map. The expansion questline can only begin if you've completed the main story in Forbidden West. Sylens, the voice in Aloy's ears and perhaps the series' most interesting character (played by the late great Lance Reddick), informs our protagonist that the Zenith threat is far from over. Zeniths, ancient humans who left Earth upon its destruction and returned to take it back in Forbidden West, were thought to have been taken care of, but one of them remained. Aloy travels to Burning Shores on the trail of Walter Londra, the surviving Zenith, and finds members of the Quen tribe washed ashore. They've set up a small town and find themselves separated and stuck, without the aid of marine navigators who seem to have vanished, along with some other members of the tribe. When she crash lands on new shores, Aloy meets Seyka, a Quen marine on the trail of the lost members of her tribe. The two strike up a partnership after they quickly realise their quests might lead in the same direction. Aloy agrees to help Seyka find her people, while the Quen informs her of strange occurrences and anomalies that have plagued the Burning Shores in recent times. The two set out after Londra to stop his sinister plans, which involve the lost members of the Quen tribe. Londra, as an antagonist, is much like the Zeniths from the main game — a narcissistic superhuman whose motivations are doused in villainy. Burning Shores fails to establish him as a distinct threat, painting him with the same colour of evil as the Zeniths who came with him and served as the antagonists in Forbidden West. On the trail of Londra and his machinations, Aloy is barrelled into a bombastic final set piece that lands with Hollywood-level heft, but fizzles out with a cagey, on-the-rails boss fight. The battle is a series-high spectacle, but offers little room to stretch your legs. A little more open-ended approach would have probably served this game better. She is established as Aloy's equal, adept at hunting machines and braving the dangers of their unpredictable world. She accompanies Aloy on her excursions, driven to find her people and discover more about Londra's threat. Up until now, across two main games and an expansion, Aloy has ventured out pretty much on her own. In fact, she has refused help, choosing to fight her battles alone. As an outcast, she never quite figured out companionship. But with Seyka, she forms an understanding as their relationship develops and they share more about themselves. Their dynamic almost seems to be a direct response to criticism about Aloy's lack of human connections in the main game. Forever the hero set on saving the world, she seemed not to care much for the people who inhabit it. And while her bond with Seyka tries to address her emotional reluctance to form meaningful relationships, it does feel a little contrived. There isn't a visible chemistry between the two, and their friendship isn't given enough time to bloom and justify what it becomes. Aloy and Seyka's dynamic does represent a step in the right direction though, despite falling short of feeling earned. It at least attempts to ground Aloy, who until now has avoided the mess of human emotion and has preferred to stick with the clarity of her higher calling. She is still busy saving the world, but her continued march towards the next fight only makes sense if there are things and people in her life worth fighting for. You carry over all your upgraded armour, weapons, and abilities from the main game, and find a host of new ones in Burning Shores. It took me a little while to get back into the groove of high-level combat and recall all the right controls. It was messy at first, but once locked in, I was able to switch seamlessly between hunter and sharpshot bows, bomb slings, traps, and ropecasters to take on the game's menacing machines. All the familiar metal monsters are here, and there are some new ones, too. The Bilegut is modelled after a colossal toad that, true to its name, has corrosive acid stored up in its gut and lashes out its long robotic tongue to deal damage and steal your resources. Then there's the Waterwing, an amphibian cousin to the Sunwing from the main game, which, in addition to taking to the skies, can dive deep into water bodies and cover great distances in a short time. Just like the Sunwing, the Waterwing can be tamed, mounted, and taken for a dip. This machine isn't the only way to explore the waters of Burning Shores; Aloy also has a makeshift motorboat at her disposal this time to navigate the map's many islands. Burning Shores has new perks for Aloy's skill tree, which add some handy abilities to combat. The standout is Grapple Strike, which lets you quickly zip to a downed machine and strike with your spear using a context action button to energise the target for a follow-up Resonator Blast attack. You can also now use your weapons in the air while gliding down to the battlefield and rain fire down on the machines before you get up close. And you can also craft and deploy shields to act as barriers between you and your enemies. In addition to traditional bows and a selection of new armour sets, you also get a new weapon, more futuristic in both design and application, pushing the series further into sci-fi territory. There are a couple of familiar landmarks, including the iconic Hollywood sign and the Capitol Records Building, but there is no city of angels to be found here. The only town is Fleet's End, a bustling Quen encampment that houses the adrift members of the tribe. Fleet's End is incredibly detailed and feels lived-in, with its denizens out and about on their daily chores, its shopkeepers calling you to peruse their wares, and its guards eyeing you with mistrust. Besides the main storyline, you can take on side quests to help out the townfolk, look for ancient collectibles scattered across the map, and clear enemy outposts. While the map of Burning Shores is bursting at the seams with detail, actual interactive tasks are few. It is a short DLC, shorter even than Frozen Wilds — the expansion to the first game, Horizon Zero Dawn. Still, it offers just about enough to warrant a dive into its waters. And it does help that all of this arrives in a beautiful package. Horizon Forbidden West was one of the best-looking games on consoles when it came out last year; its expansion remains just as stunning. It's full of breathtaking vistas, bathed in excellent lighting and painted in a vibrant art style. On the PS5, this game runs flawlessly, flexing the muscles of its underlying Decima Engine. You can choose to favour resolution for a crisper image, or performance for smoother gameplay. There are some technical issues — mostly related to popping — and a thin layer of video game jank that especially flares up during platforming sections. But, on the whole, Guerrilla Games' latest DLC is a refined package that the fans of the series have come to expect from them. As an experience, it's not very different from its parent. It presents yet another world-ending threat, riding on the back of an antagonist who doesn't fall far from his predecessors. There is an element of repetition, not just in its open world design, but also in its closed narrative. The world keeps ending and Aloy keeps saving it — run it back a few times and it leads to an insincerity in what's at stake. Burning Shores does try to add more shades to Aloy's personality, but choses spectacle over what could have been a more personal story. The burgeoning scope of the Horizon series has pushed its games to tell a fascinating transhumanist tale of apocalypse and rebirth; man and machine. But perhaps a bit more of a human touch was just what it needed this time. The successor to the original Nord Buds, this second-generation version has been launched at the same price, but with significant upgrades to the feature set and performance. Priced at Rs. 2,999, the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 comes with the notable addition of active noise cancellation (ANC), as well as promises of improvements in sound quality, battery life, and connectivity. Is this currently the best pair of true wireless earphones you can buy for less than Rs. 3,000? Find out in this review. The OnePlus Nord Buds 2 features a texture and pattern which initially looked like dust, but I eventually grew to like it   OnePlus Nord Buds 2 design and features If you're familiar with OnePlus' product range, you'll know that the Nord smartphones are priced considerably lower than the flagship number series, with appropriately positioned hardware to go with it. The same philosophy applies to the Nord earphones, and the Nord Buds 2 aren't quite as well-equipped as the recently launched (and more expensive) OnePlus Buds Pro 2. Apart from the addition of ANC in the Nord Buds 2, there are small changes in the design of the 4.7g earpieces, and more noticeable changes in the look and feel of the 37.5g charging case. It's still a rather unique and unconventional look for a pair of true wireless earphones, but the Nord Buds 2 remain light and comfortable, with a proper in-canal fit that ensures a proper noise isolating seal. The outer surface of the earpieces is a bit more even, thus making it a bit easier to operate the tap controls which are customisable through the app, and the earpieces are IP55 rated for dust and water resistance. The charging case has nicer curved edges that make for a more pocketable shape and form. The USB Type-C port for charging is at the back alongside the easy-to-miss pairing button, while the indicator light is at the front. The OnePlus Nord Buds 2 headset is available in two colours — white and grey — with both featuring an interesting spotted pattern on the earpieces and charging case. This initially looked like dust or splatters of paint to me, but I eventually grew to like this design element. The sales package includes a total of three pairs of silicone ear tips for the earphones, and a USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable. OnePlus Nord Buds 2 app and specifications Unlike on some other headsets from OnePlus and Oppo which have their detailed settings baked into the Bluetooth menu on select smartphones, the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 opts for the old-fashioned approach of using a separate app. As is usually the case, it's the HeyMelody app which lets you tweak the settings on the Nord Buds 2. It's worth noting that only the Android version of the app detects the Nord Buds 2; the iOS version (at the time of publishing this review) doesn't work with this headset. The specific settings for the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 within the app are fairly simple, covering the handful of features that the headset offers. This includes switching between ANC and transparency modes, choosing from a handful of equaliser presets, activating the 'BassWave' mode that boosts bass, a low-latency Game mode, and customising the tap controls. You can also view battery levels for both earpieces and the charging case separately, and update the firmware on the headset. The touch controls are reasonably detailed, letting you set up each earpiece to control playback, invoke the default voice assistant on your smartphone, or toggle the Game mode. The touch-and-hold function can only be used to cycle between ANC and transparency modes (or turn both off), while the long touch-and-hold function can be set up to quickly switch between two paired devices. There's no multipoint connectivity, but quick switching makes it fairly easy to use the headset with two devices almost simultaneously. The OnePlus Nord Buds 2 has an in-canal fit, which ensures proper noise isolation for the ANC functionality   In terms of specifications, the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 is fairly well set up for a headset priced at under Rs. 3,000. Powering the earphones are 12.4mm dynamic drivers, with a frequency response range of 20-20,000Hz, and a sensitivity rating of 111dB. Each earpiece has two microphones for voice and ANC functionality. For connectivity, the headset uses Bluetooth 5.3, with support for the SBC and AAC codecs. OnePlus Fast Pair and Dolby Atmos audio are supported on select OnePlus smartphones. OnePlus Nord Buds 2 performance and battery life While OnePlus' Nord series of earphones has always been priced affordably, it's also typically been ordinary in terms of performance, lacking in any strong points that help set it apart from the competition. With the Nord Buds 2, OnePlus hopes to change things — not only thanks to the fact that there's active noise cancellation on offer at this price, but also because of a notable improvement in the sound quality — as compared to the original Nord Buds. The general characteristics of the sound are similar to the previous-generation version; the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 have a punchy, aggressive, and bass-heavy sound. However, better tuning now ensures a decent level of detail as well, aided just about enough by active noise cancellation to offer a better overall sound. Starting with Anpanman by BTS, the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 sounded aggressive from the get-go, with the bass striking hard and the reverberations extending impressively far. While this was largely the theme of the original Nord Buds as well, the difference here is in how the mid-range and highs managed to keep up equally well. The rhythm of this catchy K-pop track wasn't lost in all of that low-end drive, with the synth elements pushing through quite capably. Switching to the faster and more rhythmic I Could Be The One by Avicii, the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 was able to keep up with the track and all of its nuances, frequently changing pace, The sound felt immersive and surprisingly cohesive even at high volume levels, something that isn't too common on affordable true wireless headsets. The bass is undeniably the most prominent part of the sound, but it won't distract you from the rest of the range on the Nord Buds 2. Many true wireless earphones have a sensitivity rating of around 100dB, so the 111dB level on the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 definitely stands out. This is a loud pair of earphones, which will be particularly handy for those intending to use the headset when outdoors or while commuting. Sound quality was optimal at around the 60 percent volume level or higher, but I found the earphones fairly adept even at softer and more comfortable levels. Active noise cancellation on the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 is fairly ordinary and limited in its capabilities, as is usually the case with budget audio products. It doesn't offer much noise reduction on its own, and the vacuum effect feels a bit misleading, but it does help in making it easier to listen to music or dialogue in videos, even at moderate volumes. Apart from active noise cancellation, the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 also benefits from better sound quality   Expectedly, there is no customisability in the noise cancellation. There is a transparency mode, but it's not something I used too often because of the rather excessive amplification of sounds from outside as picked up by the microphone. This would get tiring within just a few seconds, and it was easier to just pause audio and take the earphones off if I needed to speak to someone or listen to something. The OnePlus Nord Buds 2 has a battery capacity of 41mAh on the earpieces, and 480mAh on the charging case. With ANC on and the volume set to anywhere between the 50 and 60 percent volume levels, I was able to get a little under five hours of mixed use on the earpieces, with the charging case adding a bit over four full additional charges, for a total battery life of 25 hours per charge cycle. Usefully, there is also fast charging, with a 10-minute charge claiming to offer around 5 hours of listening time on the earpieces (when the earpieces are in the case, and the case is being charged). Call quality on the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 is decent indoors, and passable outdoors for quick calls, while connectivity was stable at distances of up to 4m between the earphones and source device. Verdict The idea of true wireless earphones with active noise cancellation for less than Rs. 3,000 isn't unheard of, but not too many brands have managed to get the concept right. With the Nord Buds 2, OnePlus has taken it a bit further than most, offering a pair of earphones that largely gets it right for the price. You may just find the bass a bit too much if popular and electronic genres aren't your preference, but otherwise, this is an impressive true wireless headset for the price. Options from brands such as Oppo and Realme might be worth considering, but the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 comes across as a more complete and satisfying pair of earphones, at a price that is hard to beat. The lack of app support on iOS is the only notable drawback, but it isn't one that takes too much away from the overall attractiveness of these earphones. "Data is the new oil and currency but now systems that make sense out of data will be the new oil and currency." Shukla explained that India has a population of 1.4 billion and, according to medical reports, one in five people suffers from a chronic disease. Hepatobiliary diseases, especially malignancies, and respiratory conditions such as interstitial lung disease (ILD), COPD and lung cancer are a global health crisis and most of the existing diagnostic solutions are pretty much focused on late-stage diseases, she added. "Most of these diseases do not have any major symptoms at the beginning, making it imperative to diagnose these at the preventive health care stage and enable early treatment. For patients, that can mean treatment delays, medication switches and other hassles filling a prescription. In recent months, unexpected demand spikes, manufacturing problems and tight ingredient supplies have contributed to shortages that stress patients, parents and doctors. For some drugs, such as stimulants that treat ADHD, several factors fueled a shortage and make it hard to predict when it will end. Shortages, particularly of generic drugs, have been a longstanding problem. The industry has consolidated and some manufacturers have little incentive to solve shortages because chegenerics generate thin profits. Here's a deeper look at the issue. HOW MANY DRUG SHORTAGES ARE THERE? There were 301 active national drug shortages through this year's first quarter, according to the University of Utah Drug Information Service. That's 49 per cent higher than the 202 recorded in the first three months of 2018. Patients don't feel all drug shortages because doctors may be able to substitute different medications or because other parts of the drug supply system mask the issue, said Stephen Schondelmeyer, a University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy professor. "But there are more shortages now, and they're becoming more visible," he said. WHICH DRUGS ARE IN SHORTAGE? In the fall, the US Food and Drug Administration announced a shortage of the attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder treatment Adderall due to a manufacturing problem. That has persisted and grown at times to include other stimulants that treat the condition. That situation seems to be improving, said University of Utah Health researcher Erin Fox. But several extended-release doses of the medication, its most popular form, remain in short supply. The FDA also has tracked a shortage of the diabetes treatment Ozempic, which doctors also prescribe for weight loss. Prescriptions for Ozempic - touted by celebrities and others on social media - have doubled since the summer of 2021 to more than 1.2 million, according to the health data firm IQVIA. A spokeswoman for Ozempic maker Novo Nordisk says all doses of the drug are now available at pharmacies nationwide. Last year, a spike in respiratory illnesses forced drugstore chains to temporarily limit purchases of fever-reducing medicines for children. A shortage of the antibiotic amoxicillin also cropped up around then. Injectable drugs used in hospitals and clinics, such as IV saline and some cancer treatments, are more than twice as likely as tablets or topical treatments to experience a shortage, according to a recent report written by Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. WHY DO DRUG SHORTAGES DEVELOP? Reasons can vary, and a combination of factors fuels many shortages. The Adderall manufacturing problem hit as more people started taking the drug. During the pandemic, prescriptions climbed as regulators started allowing doctors to prescribe the drug without first seeing a patient in person. Prescriptions for Adderall and its generic equivalents jumped 20 per cent between February 2020 and the end of last year, according to IQVIA. Adderall supplies face an additional challenge when demand spikes. Federal regulators limit supplies for the drug each year because it is a controlled substance. Pricing might also be a factor with some drugs. Ozempic is a diabetes drug. The same medication, semaglutide, is sold under a different brand name, Wegovy, for weight loss. Schondelmeyer noted the per-milligram price for Wegovy can be more than twice as much as Ozempic. "They've been having a run on Ozempic because people don't want to spend that much on Wegovy," Schondelmeyer said. Novo Nordisk spokeswoman Allison Schneider said price was not connected to the shortage. She tied that to a combination of demand and global supply constraints. Another factor driving shortages: Medications like Adderall and amoxicillin generate thin profits so companies don't have an incentive to make and store large amounts in case a shortage develops, Fox said. "Once a shortage starts with something you make just in time anyway, it's really hard to resolve it unless all the suppliers are back," she said. HOW ARE PATIENTS AFFECTED BY DRUG SHORTAGES? Shortages might lead to treatment delays, which can hurt patients dealing with time-sensitive conditions like cancer. Doctors are sometimes forced to prescribe alternatives that might not be as effective. That also can lead to medication errors if the doctor is less familiar with the other medication. Patients also may run out of their prescriptions or be forced to hunt for a pharmacy that has enough supply to refill it. FUTURE PROSPECTS It's tough to predict when many shortages may be resolved, partly because measuring demand is hard. "You can estimate you're going to increase your production by 10 per cent," said Mike Ganio, senior director of pharmacy practice and quality with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, "but is that going to be enough?" Meanwhile, conditions that could feed future shortages still exist. The Senate report cited an overreliance on foreign sources as a concern. Factories in China and India supply most of the raw materials used in American medicines. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, India restricted exports of 13 active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished drugs made from those chemicals, to protect its domestic drug supply. Once shortages develop, they can last years. And it can be tough for patients to get reliable information. Fox said there is no legal requirement for drugmakers to update the public. The Senate report notes that "no federal agency or private industry partner has end-to-end visibility into the entire US pharmaceutical supply chain." Fox says the stimulant shortage has been particularly frustrating. Companies have said they aren't getting enough raw materials to make the drugs, and the federal government says companies aren't using what they have. "There's been a lot of finger pointing back and forth," Fox said. Dr Malin Grape, the AMR ambassador from Sweden who recently visited India, said several commitments, strategies, and action plans have been developed to tackle this crucial issue. "As a major pharmaceutical manufacturing center, India is particularly important in this regard, especially with the G-20 and health target discussions among participating countries,"Grape. India and Sweden have had a longstanding memorandum of understanding in the health sector since 2009, with AMR being a part of the collaboration, Dr Grape said. She stressed that India, being one of the world's largest pharmaceutical producers, could play a leading and decisive role in this regard, and it is essential to start discussions with relevant stakeholders to address antibiotic residues by involving research, industry, government, and policy bodies. After getting treated to numerous leaks, there's now a bunch of leaked artist renders that suggest what the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may look like. Smartprix, in collaboration with @OnLeaks, has shared some artist renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The renders, according to the source, have been derived based on measurements and dimensions shared by another tipster (@UniverseIce) in an earlier tweet. The design of the foldable remains mostly unchanged when compared to the currently available Galaxy Z Fold 4 model that we reviewed last year. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, according to this render, seems to retain the flatter sides of the frame and the same goes for the placement of the speakers and buttons. What does appear a bit different compared to the outgoing model is the design of the rear camera module. While it appears the same in terms of overall design, it now protrudes drastically, appearing a bit chunky. This could also hint at improved cameras, which probably take up more space and therefore need to be raised by a few millimetres in comparison to the outgoing model. While the renders showcase the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 from multiple angles, there is no render showing the bottom or top view of the handset in a closed state. So, it isn't clear whether the two halves of the foldable sit flat against each other. However, the source mentions that there will be a minor gap between the two halves when the phone is in a closed state. A recent report leaked plenty of details about the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It suggested that the phone will have a display that is like the outgoing model, but will be brighter. Other upgrades hint at Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the outer display and a more durable inner display along with a revamped hinge. The phone according to the source will be priced from $1,799, which is roughly Rs. 1,47,000. The searches revealed that Byju's parent firm Think & Learn Pvt Ltd had received foreign direct investment of nearly Rs. 280 billion ($3.43 billion) between 2011 and 2023, the agency said on Saturday. The agency also said that the company remitted Rs. 97.5 billion to various foreign jurisdictions between 2011 and 2023 in the name of overseas direct investments. In the internal memo, Raveendran said that the company had sent some money overseas to fund its international acquisitions. The company had taken all efforts to comply with foreign exchange laws and all cross-border transactions were routed through regular banking channels, he added. The Cupertino company is said to introduce an interface with widget-focussed design, showing as much information as possible without requiring a user to navigate using the small display. Until now, watchOS has offered a design similar to iOS, with information tucked away in different parts of the interface.  Bloomberg's Mark Gurman states in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter that the watchOS 10 update will bring some of the biggest changes to the watch lineup since the first version of the operating system was introduced in 2015. The interface will be inspired by Apple's widgets introduced on iOS 14, allowing users to get information as quickly as possible. The first-generation Apple Watch that made its debut in 2015 featured a widgets interface called Glances. In our review of the smartwatch, we noted that Glances were like iOS' Notification Centre widgets, allowing you to tap once to open the app and access additional information. You could also quickly check the weather and control music playback without having to dig through the interface for these applications. Gurman states that Apple will introduce an interface that is based on Apple's Glances system from the first-generation Apple Watch that was dropped in favour of a Home Screen and app-centric approach that worked with the company's Digital Crown for easy navigation. It will also function in a manner similar to Apple's widgets system introduced on iOS 14, which allows users to stack several widgets on the Home Screen to conserve space and scroll through them. However, the change to the user interface on watchOS 10 might be so wide ranging that Gurman says Apple could make it opt-in for users. The company is also considering modifying the Digital Crown's functionality to surface the widget-focussed interface from the watch face, instead of navigating to the Home Screen. watchOS 10 is expected to be unveiled by the company at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference that begins on June 5. While the day-one patch made things like cutscenes smoother, as per several players, Jedi Survivor was still unable to maintain a consistent 60 fps, even on the lowest settings. Developer Respawn Entertainment has now issued an apology, confirming that its team will continue monitoring performance "across all platforms" and release patches in time. For the record, the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions aren't devoid of performance issues either — just nowhere on par with the PC version. "We are aware that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn't performing to our standards for a percentage of our PC players, in particular those with high-end machines or certain specific configurations," the tweet reads. "For example, players using cutting-edge, multi-threaded chipsets designed for Windows 11 were encountering problems on Windows 10, or high-end GPUs coupled with lower-performing CPUs also saw unexpected frame loss." While the response is certainly backed by an apology, it feels a little accusatory — as if it has to do with how a player has configured their setup. This is compounded by the fact that the game was originally slated for a March 17 release and was then delayed by six weeks to ensure polish at launch. Respawn Entertainment will now divert focus towards fixing the issues, but note that it will take some time for 'significant testing,' so the updates don't introduce new problems. It is also odd how the developer deemed running Windows 10 on newer CPUs as the cause for the issue — to my knowledge, there isn't a significant downside to it. Plus, a quick perusal of Steam's Hardware Survey page will show that 73.95 percent of PC players still use Windows 10 as their primary operating system. The game's DRM has also been reportedly posing issues for PC players, locking players out of the game because the technology believes that the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor app had been open on multiple systems at once. Even the PS5 version is laggy and its HDR system completely destroys the image quality — to the point where things are cast entirely in black. A more recent example of a broken PC port is The Last of Us Part I, which also opened to negative reception on Steam, due to crashes, choppy framerates, and odd overconsumption of the VRAM. Since launch, developer Naughty Dog has released a host of new patches and hotfixes, which have seemingly improved the performance a lot. Let's see how long Respawn takes to dole out their fixes. The 49 websites, which were independently reviewed by Bloomberg, run the gamut. Some are dressed up as breaking news sites with generic-sounding names like News Live 79 and Daily Business Post, while others share lifestyle tips, celebrity news or publish sponsored content. But none disclose they're populated using AI chatbots such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and potentially Alphabet's Google Bard, which can generate detailed text based on simple user prompts. Many of the websites began publishing this year as the AI tools began to be widely used by the public. In several instances, NewsGuard documented how the chatbots generated falsehoods for published pieces. In April alone, a website called CelebritiesDeaths.com published an article titled, "Biden dead. Harris acting President, address 9 a.m." Another concocted facts about the life and works of an architect as part of a falsified obituary. And a site called TNewsNetwork published an unverified story about the deaths of thousands of soldiers in the Russia-Ukraine war, based on a YouTube video. The majority of the sites appear to be content farms — low-quality websites run by anonymous sources that churn-out posts to bring in advertising. The websites are based all over the world and are published in several languages, including English, Portuguese, Tagalog and Thai, NewsGuard said in its report. A handful of sites generated some revenue by advertising "guest posting" — in which people can order up mentions of their business on the websites for a fee to help their search ranking. Others appeared to attempt to build an audience on social media, such as ScoopEarth.com, which publishes celebrity biographies and whose related Facebook page has a following of 124,000. More than half the sites make money by running programmatic ads — where space for ads on the sites are bought and sold automatically using algorithms. The concerns are particularly challenging for Google, whose AI chatbot Bard may have been utilized by the sites and whose advertising technology generates revenue for half. NewsGuard co-Chief Executive Officer Gordon Crovitz said the group's report showed that companies like OpenAI and Google should take care to train their models not to fabricate news. "Using AI models known for making up facts to produce what only look like news websites is fraud masquerading as journalism," said Crovitz, a former publisher of the Wall Street Journal. OpenAI didn't immediately respond to a request for comment, but has previously stated that it uses a mix of human reviewers and automated systems to identify and enforce against the misuse of its model, including issuing warnings or, in severe cases, banning users. In response to questions from Bloomberg about whether the AI-generated websites violated their advertising policies, Google spokesperson Michael Aciman said that the company doesn't allow ads to run alongside harmful or spammy content, or content that has been copied from other sites. "When enforcing these policies, we focus on the quality of the content rather than how it was created, and we block or remove ads from serving if we detect violations," Aciman said in a statement. Google added that after Bloomberg got in touch, it removed ads from serving on some individual pages across the sites, and in instances where the company found pervasive violations, it removed ads from the websites entirely. Google said that the presence of AI-generated content is not inherently a violation of its ad policies, but that it evaluates content against their existing publisher policies. And it said that using automation — including AI — to generate content with the purpose of manipulating ranking in search results violates the company's spam policies. The company regularly monitors abuse trends within its ads ecosystem and adjusts its policies and enforcement systems accordingly, it said. Noah Giansiracusa, an associate professor of data science and mathematics at Bentley University, said the scheme may not be new, but it's gotten easier, faster and cheaper. The actors pushing this brand of fraud "are going to keep experimenting to find what's effective," Giansiracusa said. "As more newsrooms start leaning into AI and automating more, and the content mills are automating more, the top and the bottom are going to meet in the middle" to create an online information ecosystem with vastly lower quality. To find the sites, NewsGuard researchers used keyword searches for phrases commonly produced by AI chatbots, such as "as an AI large language model" and "my cutoff date in September 2021." The researchers ran the searches on tools like the Facebook-owned social media analysis platform CrowdTangle and the media monitoring platform Meltwater. They also evaluated the articles using the AI text classifier GPTZero, which determines whether certain passages are likely to be written entirely by AI. Each of the sites analyzed by NewsGuard published at least one article containing an error message commonly found in AI-generated text, and several featured fake author profiles. One outlet, CountyLocalNews.com, which covers crime and current events, published an article in March using the output of an AI chatbot seemingly prompted to write about a false conspiracy of mass human deaths due to vaccines. "Death News," it said. "Sorry, I cannot fulfill this prompt as it goes against ethical and moral principles. Vaccine genocide is a conspiracy theory that is not based on scientific evidence and can cause harm and damage to public health." Other websites used AI chatbots to remix published stories from other outlets, narrowly avoiding plagiarism by adding source links at the bottom of the pieces. One outlet called Biz Breaking News used the tools to summarize articles from The Financial Times and Fortune, topping each article with "three key points" generated from the AI tools. Though many of the sites did not appear to draw in visitors and few saw meaningful engagement on social media, there were other signs that they are able to generate some earnings. Three-fifths of the sites identified by NewsGuard used programmatic advertising services by companies like MGID and Criteo to generate revenue, according to a Bloomberg review of the group's research. MGID and Criteo didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Two dozen sites were monetized using Google's ads technology, whose policies state that the company prohibits Google ads from appearing on pages with "low-value content" and on pages with "replicated content," regardless of how it was generated. (Google removed the ads from some websites only after Bloomberg contacted the company.) Giansiracusa, the Bentley professor, said it was worrying how cheap the scheme has become, with no human cost to the perpetrators of the fraud. "Before, it was a low-paid scheme.
